Same same but different

Our panellists will discuss the importance of communities, self-empowerment, and the spirit of inclusion as the foundation of a diverse society.  Watch them explore what it means to be ‘different’ and how their lived experiences have contributed to their opinions on the subject.

Panellists

Kumar

Comedian, Actor, Television Host and Drag Queen

Kumar wears many hats. He is a comedian, actor, television host and drag queen. With sharp humour and keen observations, his commentary on life in Singapore, particularly about race, sex and politics has made him a household name.

Come hear him speak of the importance of finding your voice and being true to yourself, while always having a laugh.

Yvelyn Tey

Recruiter, Industrial Light & Magic

Yvelyn never gave up pursuing the life she wanted to lead. A rare condition called Macular Oedema almost left her blind in one eye and to this day, she requires long term steroid eye drops to manage her sight. To protect her eyes, she left her job as an auditor, started a cafe with friends and finally moved into recruitment when the cafe closed just before COVID.

The fear of going blind whenever her condition flares up is a feature of Yvelyn’s life. Somehow, that has not dimmed her zest for life. To hear her speak is to be inspired and to recognise the importance of welcoming change, taking risks and maintaining strong support networks.

Avon Neo

Managing Director Head of Global Markets Private Bank Sales, Asia ex-Japan, Nomura

Avon is a high achiever in the world of finance. She holds a First Class Honor in Finance from The University of Western Australia and started managing teams before the age of 30. Be prepared to learn and laugh with Avon as she shares her experiences of changing mindsets in the financial industry, the importance of courage and managing your response when uncomfortable situations arise.
