Yvelyn Tey

Recruiter, Industrial Light & Magic

Yvelyn never gave up pursuing the life she wanted to lead. A rare condition called Macular Oedema almost left her blind in one eye and to this day, she requires long term steroid eye drops to manage her sight. To protect her eyes, she left her job as an auditor, started a cafe with friends and finally moved into recruitment when the cafe closed just before COVID.

The fear of going blind whenever her condition flares up is a feature of Yvelyn’s life. Somehow, that has not dimmed her zest for life. To hear her speak is to be inspired and to recognise the importance of welcoming change, taking risks and maintaining strong support networks.

Singaporean competitive swimmer, publisher and fashion-lover

Wei Soong understands suffering and has used it to lead a life of growth and self-improvement. He is a Paralympian and a two-time Asian Para Games gold medallist.

At the recent ASEAN Para Games 2023, he won a total of three gold medals, as well as breaking his own record at the S7 100m Freestyle. He publishes poetry and philosophy. He is a fresh graduate of The Bridge Fashion Innovator incubator organised by The Singapore Fashion Council.

Key to Wei Soong’s success is his unwavering focus on his goals, starting and ending his days with the question “What do I want to achieve today?” He is a believer in “doing the small things” to move forward, to overcome helplessness and take control. This is how he triumphs and breaks new ground.
